Maybe
you saw Jim featured in Michael Moore's "Farenheit 9-11,"
speaking of the manipulation of the public through fear.
McDermott
endorsed Howard Dean's presidential campaign,
served up pep talks to anxious supporters before the Washington
state caucus, and rallied heartbroken Seattle Deaniacs after Dean
failed to win the state.
He
has several times introduced bills proposing a single-payer health
insurance plan, and pledges to do so again, as our present healthcare
system fails millions of citizens.
He
backs Rep. John Conyers in his uphill battle to apply acountability
to the Bush administration.
MORE
REASONS WHY I CARE:
I recall the Congressman making himself available to
a tiny group of small donors at a house party fundraiser, patiently
explaining why his legal battle "McDermott vs Boehner"
affects the ability of citizens and media to penetrate government
secrecy and expose corruption; after nine years of resisting demands
that he admit wrongdoing, "they picked the wrong guy"
to make an example of, he says.
Jim
at a public Social Security forum with Dennis Kucinuch, explaining
the deceptiveness of the Repubs' SS "reform" plan.
Jim
broadcasting the truth again at the Backbone Campaign's "Downing
Street Memo" drama and lecture;
Jim
posting on the Daily Kos blog and unexpectedly showing up at blogger
get-togethers;
Jim
and Rep. Jay Inslee at the "Operation Homcoming" antiwar
seminar, explaining recent developments in Congress: "Jay said:
Jim, the apocolypse has arrived! You and Jack Murtha are in agreement!"
Jim
at last summer's "Rolling Thunder DemocracyFest", breathing
antiwar fire yet again;
Jim
speaking many times to district Democrats about his grave concerns
for the future of this country and his own grandchildren, yet always
quick with a smile. Jim and the other congressman supporting newcomer
Darcy Burner at the Washington State Democrats' Annual Crab Feast
and State convention;
We
are lucky to have
Jim McDermott!
